Renaissance Music for the Harp Book
$14.99
Marcelo Millan
Although there are no surviving
musical scores from the 16th century written specifically for the
harp, at the time the harp was considered interchangeable with
keyboard instruments or the lute for performance. Thus, it was
common during the period to write keyboard and lute music that could
be adapted and played on the harp.
This collection of lute transcriptions
offer a number of short, easy pieces as well as intermediate
compositions that will provide good materials for teaching and
performance. In order to preserve the style of the Renaissance
period, the pieces have not been modified in any way that would
change what the original composers intended.
All the pieces were transcribed
without editorial changes besides occasionally transposing some
octaves to make the music more suitable for the harp. A glossary of
musical forms is also provided. Due to the considerable number of
accidentals in the pieces, the book has been written with the
pedal-harp in mind. However, signs and tuning indications have been
provided for the lever-harp players who want to play these pieces.
